Madonna - the beginningMadonna (Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone) was born on August 16th, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, USA and brought up in a large family in the Detroit suburb of Rochester. As a kid she took classes in piano and ballet, and took part in a variety of artistic activities at school. Thanks to a dance scholarship she could enrol at the Michigan university, but quit after two years and moved to New York (in 1978) to pursue a professional career as a dancer. Her first single, Everybody, was released in 1982. In 1983 her debut album Madonna was released, and the first hit Holiday topped the charts around the world. This album was indeed a great success and made Madonna a star instantly. Madonna's debut was followed by another successful album, Like A Virgin, in 1984. In 1985 she made her debut in Hollywood, appearing briefly in Vision Quest, and the same year she married a Hollywood actor, Sean Penn. In 1985-87 another bunch of her songs hit the charts around the world: Into The Groove, Dress You Up, Live To Tell, Papa Don't Preach and True Blue. Madonna is by many considered the Queen of Pop Music. She surely is one of the few artists with so many hit songs known to people around the world. |
